AMAZING HOTEL, AMAZING HOSTS This is a small guest house run by an English Gentleman, Charles, and his Japanese wife. The guesthouse is a little out of the town but Charles provided us with a free pick and drop. We had an early start the next day and Charles was generous enough to not only drop us at our requested time but also went out of the way to cook an early delicious breakfast. He packed the breakfast for us as we did not have enough time to eat there. He and his wife also gave us tips for our next site seeing adventure which actually helped us a lot. The rooms are clean and big with Wifi available in common areas. The whole setup is soothing and beautiful. It's amazing how just 2 people manage that operation, they are a hard-working lot. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to have a great time in Nikko. Just remember, Charles is very fussy about eating in Rooms, so please don't. Charles if you are reading, we were not eating in the room.
SO WELCOMING AND COSY We spent 2 nights here and felt so at home. The owners are so lovely, welcoming and helpful and go out of their way to make your stay perfect and make sure you get the most out of Nikko, starting with a helpful pick up from the Station (even given we got stuck on a non-moving train for ages and had to let them know we'd be late by email). Our room was huge and overlooked a bubbling stream and woods. It was nice to be out of town - very quiet and we saw some deer outside one morning. It was nicely decorated and had all the usual extras including a fridge if you needed it! We had dinner there on one of the nights and it was super - good portions of very tasty food including tea/coffee. Beer and wine available at extra cost too. We didn't have the breakfast as we're not big eaters first thing but it smelt nice!”
A FRIENDLY AND WELCOMING HOTEL IN A LOVELY AREA The most striking thing is the welcome from Charles and Yuki when you arrive. They were wonderfully welcoming and it all put us in a good humour. The room was comfortable and overlooked a stream. It was nice also to sit in the dining room and talk soon other guests. The dinner and breakfast were very good and plentiful. The wifi was a bit laboured and there were quite a few dropouts but overall it is a highly recommended place should you stay in the area.
A CHARMING MOUNTAIN HOTEL WITH CHARMING OWNERS Owners of the hotel were charming and very caring. They give us very useful suggestions to make the most of Nikko. The hotel is modest, but very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was superb. A charming mountain hotel. Perfect if you have your own car, but at 2.6 km of Nikko town center. If I ever come back to Nikko I would be staying here.
We arrived by train at 1pm and caught a taxi to teddy bear house, as check in was at 4pm we had to catch a bus back to town and walk around for a few hours and then caught a bus back. It was freezing cold and wasn't a great start to our stay. Once we were checked in the room was quite adequate, not the five star we had just come from but plenty big enough with all we needed, although we did have to ask for a kettle. The meals cooked by Charles were good and he was a very friendly helpful fellow who also drove the shuttle bus as the house is 2-3km out of town. He did drive us to a scenic spot before dropping us off in town which was great. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend this as a place to stay, both Charles and Yuki speak perfect English which is an added bonus.
